Despite stabilizing during the latest session, UAE gold prices remain lower than they were one month ago.
The 24K rate declined from AED 518.50 on September 14 to AED 502.75 on October 13. That represents a decrease of AED 15.75 per gram, or approximately 3%.
The 22K gold rate fell from AED 480.25 to AED 465.50 over the same period, a decline of AED 14.75 per gram. The 21K and 18K categories also recorded decreases of about 3%.
Gold reached its highest 24K rate in the table on September 18 at AED 527.75 per gram. The current rate is AED 25 below that level, equivalent to a decline of approximately 4.7%.
However, prices have recovered from the October 7 low of AED 494.00. The latest 24K quotation is AED 8.75 higher, representing a rebound of around 1.8%.
International gold prices moved slightly lower during early Asian trading as investors avoided taking large positions before the US Consumer Price Index report.
Spot gold traded near $4,165.88 per ounce, down approximately 0.2%. Comex gold futures had previously settled 0.6% lower at $4,165.80 as a stronger dollar and rising oil prices increased uncertainty surrounding the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate outlook.
Higher Treasury yields generally increase the opportunity cost of holding gold because bullion does not generate interest. A stronger dollar can also make gold more expensive for buyers using other currencies.
The September US CPI report, scheduled for October 14, could determine the next significant move. Higher-than-expected inflation could strengthen expectations of another Federal Reserve rate increase, potentially pressuring global bullion and UAE gold rates. Softer inflation could reduce yields and help gold recover.
Because the UAE dirham is pegged to the US dollar, changes in international gold prices are transmitted relatively directly into local per-gram rates. The next update to the gold rate in UAE today will depend primarily on movements in spot bullion during European and US trading.
